I was doing a lot through Google while I was there but I always had an eye on the wider community. Personally, I do think we’ve lacked people to take on various aspects of the community and when some have done so, we haven’t bandied up to support them.
That said, the ecosystem has grown and there are so many champions. That’s okay, it’s happened in many places elsewhere where they are multiple leaders.
Our tech community may look fragmented to many, but it is very networked. The degrees of separation are very few. It’s not because we are ‘small’, it’s because we network, share and learn and mentor. See what I did there? I brought in Barcamp Ghana. Because yes, that’s exactly what Barcamps are doing. And they continue.
We need to identify those taking on leadership & unique roles and support them. Period. More vim!
